Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.
Most weeks I lead this feature with an event or series of events. This week/weekend is a fairly quiet one, however, considering everyone is still recovering from New Year’s Eve and Christmas before that. So instead I figured why not lead off with the beers instead? There are several brand-new beers popping up around the ABQ metro area. What says new year quite like new beer? Nothing else that I can think of, so let us peruse the first timers. Bosque is wrapping up its Open Space Haze series with 120 West, which is basically a hazy Scale Tipper (same hop bill). I already enjoyed some while watching Arizona beat Arizona State in hoops on Saturday, so I highly recommend getting it before it rapidly runs out between the three Bosque locations. Bow & Arrow has introduced Vanilla Daze Stout, which is a new recipe compared to their past vanilla bean stout. Flix Brewhouse hops on the haze train Thursday with Nebulas New England IPA. Marble has Ginger Kid, a new ginger stout, available at the Westside taproom. Tropical Solution, a blended fruited gose, is available at the Heights taproom. Quarter Celtic unveiled a variant of its Irish Handcuffs Imperial Stout, called Cold Brew Handcuffs. Steel Bender will be saying Oh Gs on Thursday when its new ginger and grapefruit gose debuts. Finally, Turtle Mountain goes (really) big with Infinitesimus Imperial Stout.
On the returning favorites beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bosque has more Pale Ryder on tap. Canteen rolls out a fresh batch of Schwarzbier. Marble also has Double IPA, Brett Pale Ale, Oaked Amber (on nitro), and Blackberry Gose available between its three taprooms. There is also a little bit of barrel-aged Hop Fudge Sunday left at the Heights. Ponderosa brings back Spanglish this weekend.
Up in Santa Fe, it is all quiet. Again. Somebody get up there and drink up all the older beers on tap so they can put some new ones out! UPDATE: Or so we thought, as Second Street sent us an updated list, now featuring IPA 1000 and Agua Fria Pilzner. Plus, as a reader pointed out, Santa Fe Brewing has had its Imperial Pastry-Free Pilsner on tap since last Friday.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of January 1, 2018.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.
