Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, and one in Red River also joining the party.
A while back, a whole slew of local brewers gathered at the Marble Heights location to eat, drink, share stories, laugh, and of course create a new collaboration beer in advance of the upcoming Craft Brewers Conference. Gracias Greg, named for MavLab head brewer Greg Dupy, is now available at Marble (all locations) and Toltec, and figures to roll out soon at the other participating breweries — Bosque, Canteen, Santa Fe, and Turtle Mountain. We can also note that the brewing day took place long enough ago that Andrew Krosche and Dan Cavin, who brewed for Chama River/Kellys, participated. (Fear not, both have found new brewing jobs, with Andrew returning to Marble, and Dan joining the staff at the soon-to-open Ex Novo Brewing in Corrales.) The reason it took so long for Gracias Greg to appear on tap is that it is a lager, checking in at a sessionable 4.5-percent ABV. If the weather ever makes up its mind outside, this seems like a crushable porch/patio brew. Grab one and raise it in honor of all of our local brewers, as a portion of the proceeds goes back to the New Mexico Brewers Guild.
Also, take note that there are NM United watch parties at a slew of breweries and taprooms this Saturday for the 6:30 p.m. road game at Rio Grande Valley. In addition to the official fan group, The Curse, hosting parties at Starr Brothers and Rio Bravo, you can also watch the games (via ESPN+ streaming) at Toltec, Red Door, and all three Marble locations. Do take note, if you want a seat at a lot of these places, get there early, especially at Starr Brothers.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few other options to check out. Boese Brothers recently rolled out Zeus Juice and a Marzen, and will add Prickly Pear Sour during the ABQ Artwalk this Friday. Boxing Bear managed to sneak a few new brews in late last week in the Murkito Hazy Pale, OktoBEARfest, and Mosaic Mountain IPA. La Cumbre brings out Acclimated American Pale Ale on tap and in cans on Friday, while also adding Helles Lager, Tres Padres Belgian Tripel, and The Magestic Stag Scotch Ale on tap. Marble is also feeling silky smooth with Cashmere SMASH. Nexus brings back Mango Milkshake IPA at the Blue Smokehouse only (for now). Ponderosa blossoms with more Blood Orange Double Wit. Red Door puckers up with Lemonade Stand. Steel Bender resurrects The Goose is Loose and Out to Pasture. Toltec has added The Salty Orchard, a pear/peach gose, and Vamanos, a coffee brown ale, in time for Craft Course Wednesday. Tractor says yeeha with Cowgirl Coffee Stout. Turtle Mountain flies in with Yum Yum Breeze.
Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn brings back its tasty Scotch Ale. HoneyMoon adds three new kombucha styles in Cidrucha, Lupolo Seca, and Cereza Negra. Tumbleroot has Honey Double IPA back on draft. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row whipped up 50 Shades of Haze, Amber, and American Wheat.

Dunk-a-Chito was inspired by biscochitos, so indulge in this big dessert beer. Speaking of dessert, Velvet Udders, a chocolate milk stout is now available. The most recent additions were Squirrel Nuts (peanut butter hazelnut brown), Copper Ale, Freak Juice, another New England-style IPA, and Beer Against Humanity, a new West Coast IPA, is available in cans at the brewery, soon to appear in distribution. It will ultimately replace the DRB and Snakebite IPAs.

Foggy Monocle, the 2017 champion, won again by the narrowest of margins, with 80 points (out of a possible 100) to the 77.5 for Marble’s Oatmeal Stout and the 76.5 for 2018 champion Dark ‘n Lusty from Canteen.

More recent additions include Lupolo Seca, Cereza Negra, and Cidrucha, a cider collaboration.

Before those came The Petit Blanche – Galaxy, and the Chantal, a French saison brewed in memory of a friend lost to cancer, with a portion of the proceeds going to the New Mexico Cancer Society. RFA has bottles of a new collaboration beer called Terrapin Transit, a strawberry and lime Berliner Weisse. Bottles of Grandissant – 4x Cerise, a Chardonnay barrel-aged golden sour aged on four pounds per gallon of organic Colorado cherries, may still be available at the brewery, but make sure to call first.
