Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.
Oh, it’s gonna be quite the weekend. We’ve got metal on Friday, geekdom on Saturday, and another one of those drinking holidays on Sunday. OK, not all of it really takes place at breweries, certainly not the start as Slayer, Amon Amarth, Lamb of God, and Cannibal Corpse take over the Isleta Amphitheater. That should answer the question “where is the Crew tonight?” on Friday. Anyway, back to the breweries, your Friday alternative is the downtown Art Walk, which will include an indoor art market at Boese Brothers. Then on Saturday, Bow & Arrow has a May Pop-Up Market at noon, while Quarter Celtic and Rio Bravo will be throwing an entire Star Wars-themed day series of events and discounts for May the 4th Be With You (the holiday also known as my birthday, so you can rest assured that I will be enjoying some delicious beers that day). Then comes Cinco de Mayo on Sunday, so please, pretty please, leave your car at home and find safe means of transportation if you are going out. There will be a DWI blitz by multiple police departments this entire weekend. Scroll down to the brewery entries below for all the live music and other events going on Sunday afternoon and evening. Ponderosa has an English Amber Ale now on tap.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bosque is getting weird with Bringing Pickleback, plus Spacelion IPA returns in cans for a special release at the Las Cruces taproom on Saturday. Bow & Arrow shines with Golden Bandana Bohemian Pilsner. Boxing Bear has Brut German Pilsner, plus it added Barrel-Aged Chocolate Milk Stout, New MexiKolsch, and MavBear Brett Hazy IPA for the West Downtown Taproom grand opening today (Wednesday). Canteen and Turtle Mountain both have their Kolscllaboration on tap, plus cans of Canteen’s Cabana Lager will be on sale this weekend. Dialogue is feeling sour with Blacker the Berry the Sweeter the Juice. Marble rolls along with Vienna Exxxtra, Not English Pale Ale, and Brut Savant. Nexus brought back Coffee & Cream, while also introducing G-Bird Grapefruit IPA. Red Door made more New England IPA, because you all can’t seem to get enough of it. Steel Bender has a mixed-fruit Berliner Weisse, Rosy Nosy, going on tap Thursday. Toltec is celebrating its one-year anniversary all weekend, with Toltec Especial and Goddess Warrior, an imperial agave wheat, going on tap Sunday.
Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales travels the world for The Smoking Swede and Arigato Gosemasu. Down in Truth or Consequences, T or C Brewing already has Tangerine Blonde and Overflow IPA on tap, and this Thursday it will add Cerveza Organica, Paddleboard Pale Ale, Hot Springs Lager, and Pomegranate Wheat.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of April 29.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.
