Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

The end of festival season is nigh, with a few big ones on deck for this weekend, including the last two Oktoberfest parties (that we know of) going down in two completely different settings. Up north, Red River is hosting its annual event Friday through Sunday at Brandenburg Park, with locals Red River Brewing and 10 other breweries taking part. The cost is just $5 for the entire weekend, with commemorative taster mugs for $10 or stein glasses for $20. There will be food, games, music, and more. Just bring some warm clothes, because it will be chilly this weekend across the state. If you cannot leave the ABQ area this weekend, head over to Rio Bravo for the Albuquerque Oktoberfest on Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. There will be music, food from the German American Club, and plenty of German brews on tap from the hosts. The cost is $5 at the door. UPDATED: Make that three Oktoberfest parties in one weekend, as Second Street will be partying it up at all three locations in Santa Fe! There will be a full German menu with sausages and schnitzel, plus Oktoberforest, Atalaya Altbier, and Vienna Lager on tap. A full menu is coming soon, so keep an eye on all the Second Street Facebook pages. There is also the 10th annual New Mexico Brew Fest at Villa Hispana inside the State Fairgrounds, which we will be covering in a separate preview this week.

Fresh off its huge win at the Great American Beer Festival, Rowley Farmhouse Ales will tap small amounts of its three medal-winning beers today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m.: Meier (gold), Agent Orange (silver), Cote d’Or (bronze). They will not last long, so get over there, Santa Fe beer lovers! Other GABF medal winners currently on tap are Sierra Blanca’s Cherry Wheat (silver), Toltec’s Shaman Stout (bronze), and Tumbleroot’s Double Brown Ale (bronze). La Cumbre is hard at work brewing more Acclimated APA (silver).

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Black Snout recently added a Kona Coconut Porter. Bombs Away hits the mark with Just an Amber, Operation Single Hop (Hazy), and S.A.F. Black Currant Sour. Bow & Arrow brings back Dark Mesa on tap and in bottles this Friday. Boxing Bear is putting Oso Otono, its oatmeal brown, on tap and in cans this Saturday. Differential has more Irish Red on tap, plus it is getting into the hard seltzer game with Hard Italian Soda now available. Ex Novo has more Eliot IPA, plus Livin’ on Baltic Avenue makes its dark and decadent debut. High and Dry added the charity brew La Avispa Gose, benefiting the Pink Warrior House in the fight against breast cancer. Lava Rock rolls out more of the popular Hazy Coconut IPA. Marble goes a wee bit English with Porter and Nitro Pub Ale. Quarter Celtic released Hazy Clark IPA over the weekend. Thirsty Eye exclaims Good Gourd this weekend for its new cranberry/pumpkin ale. Tractor will tap Pumpkin Spice Cider on Friday.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn brings back Apricot Sour. Rowley Farmhouse Ales also has more of its barleywine, Body isn’t Life, and the new Texas Tilt, a ruby red grapefruit gose. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row shakes things up with fresh batches of Mexi Lager, CojonHaze, Second City Dark Mild, and Frankenstout. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing gazes up at Milky Way Stout on Thursday.

Beers: Special Shapes (IPA), Ghost of a Moon (Pale Ale), other taps rotate frequently. The most recent additions are constantly shifting. That’s what happens with a 1-barrel brewhouse, the turnover is pretty constant, but it also means the beer is always fresh! Special Shapes and Ghost of a Moon are on tap at almost all times. For October, La Avispa Gose, a collaboration with Marble, should be on tap at all times, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Pink Warrior House in the fight against breast cancer.
