Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

The good folks at Marble Brewery have been talking for a while now about varying up some of their classic barrel-aged beers by using, well, different barrels. Some of the Imperial Stout and Reserve Ale was held back this year, and then aged in Caribbean rum barrels. There will now be a limited bottle and tap release at all three taprooms today (Wednesday) starting at noon. The Chocolate Cartel will provide a special complimentary pairing at 5 p.m. In addition, if you want to learn more about the barrel-aging process, you can join guided tastings at 6 p.m. at the Heights taproom with director of brewing operations John Heine, and at the Westside taproom with brewer Andrew Krosche. Seating is limited, so show up early.
Other special packaged releases this week include Siren Song, a barrel-aged imperial red, from La Cumbre on Friday, and Boxing Bear is unveiling Murkules Hazy DIPA and Sucker Punch DIPA in cans this Saturday.
We will have a lot more about the Bow & Arrow anniversary party this Saturday in our Look Back/Look Ahead Series article, which we plan to run Thursday. There are two special bottle and tap releases with Desert Revival Cherry Sour on Friday and Strange Country Dark Sour on Saturday. I tried both, and oh my, they are quite delicious.
On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Canteen is feeling festive with Mexican Chocolate Milk Stout. Cantero unveils a new strong ale, Mountain Thunder. Ex Novo released Brown is the New Black last week, so now comes Black is the New Brown (Porter), along with Munich Dunkel. Kaktus recently added a Doppelbock, Porter, and Black IPA. La Cumbre also has more Einbeck Two-Step Doppelbock and From Putin With Love. Marble also added Cerveza Celebracion and Blackberry Gose. Ponderosa goes big with Wine Barrel Bock. Red Door is starting a new series of fruited Berliner Weisses this Saturday, with each small batch available at the brewery only. Rio Bravo hops to it with The Big Hopowski, plus its collaboration with Toltec, I’m All Shook Up Stout, made with banana and peanut butter in tribute to Elvis Presley, is available at both breweries. Steel Bender wakes up Thursday with Cutbow Coffee Porter. Toltec also taps Pom-Pina Gose on Thursday. Tractor has already rolled out Chocolate Milk Stout, while adding Muddy Dubbel, the first of its Beer for a Better Burque program, benefiting Carrie Tingley Hospital. Turtle Mountain added Labour of Love, a raspberry stout, plus Cran Cran Yum Yum.
Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn goes old school with Brown Paper Bag Malt Liquor. Rowley Farmhouse Ales is feeling cute with Saison Du Sarlacc – Baby Yoda Edition. Second Street has more XX ESB and Centennial Pale Ale. Tumbleroot has a slew of new brews including Vanilla Imperial Stout, Oatmeal Stout on nitro, Munich Dunkel, Hazy IPA, Belgian Wit, and Funk Farm, a barrel-aged mixed fermentation farmhouse ale.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of February 10.
