Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

There is always a fear that when a brewery shuts down, even if it claims it will be only for a short while, that it may never reopen again. So while we figured that Bow & Arrow closing recently really would be just a temporary situation, there was still that nagging doubt in the back of our minds. Thankfully, the brewery is back open today (Wednesday) after the resupply of crowler cans and glass growlers arrived a week early. Initially, Bow & Arrow had said it would be back by May 1, but now the beers will flow again, including one new brew for crowler/growler fills, Sunwest Kolsch. Good news is rare in this day and age, so let us all take a moment to thank the beer gods, or at least the crowler/growler supply staffers, for getting one of our best breweries back open. Head to the website to place your order in advance. In addition to ordering beers to-go, you can also donate to help purchase locally made hand sanitizer that will then be sent to the first responders helping the Navajo Nation.
Other bits of important news you need to know:
- Ex Novo has purchased a crowler machine. Can supplies will be limited right off the bat, but a bigger shipment should arrive soon.
- Lava Rock is reopening for growler sales Thursday through Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. each day. See its entry below for more details.
- Rio Bravo has also purchased a crowler machine, which should be ready to go this weekend.
- Thirsty Eye will be open exclusively to brewery members and Exhibit/208 supporters this Thursday through Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. If you are eligible, call (505) 639-5831 for advance orders from 3 to 6:30. There are four fresh batches of beer available, and you can bring in your own growler that will be sanitized and then filled (please allow for extra time).
- Tumbleroot is reopening its Bisbee Court location for online order pickups. This includes crowlers and bottles of beer, bottles and cans of spirits, and bottles of hand sanitizer. See its entry below for the link.
On the new beer front this week, there are only few new options to check out as most breweries are focusing on their core styles. Ex Novo should have three new beers available early next week in Bock Holliday Maibock, Elbow Bump Hazy IPA, and Brexit Through the Gift Shop English IPA, plus Where the Mild Things Are is back on draft for crowler/growler fills. UPDATE: La Reforma just added Wai-iti SMASH, a new pilsner. Lava Rock rolls out Valles Lager, Birra M’tucci, Lava Juice Hazy IPA, Sandia Haze, Fall Out Pale Ale, and Uno’s Bully Bitter. Marble added High PA back on Monday (natch) for crowler/growler fills. UPDATE: Sidetrack just added Pilsner for the People for crowler/growler fills. Tractor has Coffee Porter available for growler fills, and (UPDATE) has Farmer’s Tan Red Ale and Brut IPA in 16-ounce four-pack cans.
Up in Santa Fe, Chili Line has tapped five new beers including Brumoso Hazy IPA, TDH Mosaic Pilsner, Dingle Berry Golden Ale (with blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry), Salty Dog Imperial Stout, and The Corona Killer Imperial Sour Saison. In addition, Chili Line now has six-packs and four-packs of all of its beers. Tumbleroot added an Irish Dry Stout to its lineup of crowler-ready beers.
Breweries, if there is anything not in here that you would like the public to know about, get in touch with us ASAP. We can continuously update this post as needed.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of April 20.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Growler/Crowler Fills” for beers on draft, and “Can/Bottle” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
