The Week Ahead in Beer: It is autumn now because La Cumbre says so

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

It finally cooled off this week, maybe only for a little while (this is New Mexico, you just never know), but it sure started to feel like fall out there. Before the Crew dusts off our black hoodies and prepares for metal nights by the fire pit, La Cumbre continues to solidify the position that autumn is truly here with another seasonal release in cans. After Oktoberfest arrived last week, this Friday will mark the return of the autumn edition of Project Dank IPA. The quarterly editions of these excellent hop-forward elixirs are always welcome seasonal moments for us and many other beer lovers around the state. Of course, being La Cumbre and all, there will also be yet another hazy IPA, Luminosity, debuting in cans as well. The haze often sells out quickly, so as per usual, get there early if you can, or cash in a favor with a friend to make sure they get you a four-pack or two before they are gone.

On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out. Bombs Away will tap TropiKolsch and Oktoberfest this Friday. Bow & Arrow put their Oktoberfest on draft on Tuesday, and it is quite tasty. Canteen will have six-pack cans of Irish Red ready on Friday. Ex Novo kicks back with Easy Come Easy Go BoPils on draft. Gravity Bound added Sun Salvage, a hazy IPA, and Pegbox Pale Ale to its taps. Harmon Lane will be canning Hazy IPA for a Friday release. High and Dry rolls out Bucket of Rags (Wheat Ale), Just Choose (Pale Ale), and Repair Manual (Hazy IPA) on draft. Kaktus recently tapped Basil Blonde and the aptly named Late Summer Pils. Marble saved one keg of its Starlight Wheat Ale, brewed for an El Paso-based charity, and will have it on tap at the downtown location only for a limited time. Nexus will tap Orale Mexican Lager on Friday. Starr Brothers brought back Somos Cerveza on draft after a short absence. Tractor sticks to the season with Traktoberfest on draft, and yes, it is also quite tasty. Turtle Mountain keeps things light with its new British Mild, Agri-Cola.

Up in Santa Fe, Tumbleroot has reopened its Agua Fria taproom, with fresh batches of Dortmunder Lager, Funk Farm, Dry Hopped Tripel, Imperial Red, and Honey Double IPA on draft, plus bottles of Cherry Sour are available. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row added more Mexi Lager on tap and the new Nuevo Sake, an experimental beer brewed with sake yeast, on draft and in 22-ounce bottles.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
