The Week Ahead In Beer: Autumn Arrives As Oktoberfest Rolls On

Hails dear readers, Franz Solo here to give you the latest in all things beer for this week, the first of Autumn. How it is Autumn already is beyond my comprehension. Time lost to a myriad of light lagers and hoppy ales perhaps? Difficult to say. In any event, here we are in the midst of Oktoberfest which for me and most of the crew marks the start of one of our favorite seasons. Fall! We are just a tad enamored of malty brews (think Oktoberfest, Bock, Brown, Porter, Stout and the like) and wearing our beloved hoodies (mainly metal bands of course) to warm the bones in the crisp fall air (not so crisp yet, alas). So when Fest Biers and Märzens appear on taps around the state, we get just a wee bit excited. This week carries on the festivities with Rio Rancho’s Oktoberfest coming up on Saturday with details below. So in the mean time, grab an Oktoberfest and such accoutrements as you wish, and let’s see what’s new, what comes next, shall we?

New Draft: Bombs Away has two new offerings with Short Fuze Blonde Ale, and Oktoberfest.  Bosque breaks bread with: Breakin’ Bread Brown Ale brewed with 1600 breadsticks from Restoration Pizza, and also releases Guava Cider brewed with 653 pounds of guava. Brew Lab 101 gets into the festivities with Labtoberfest, their Oktoberfest Lager. Canteen gets fresh with Dougie Fresh Pale Ale (Fresh Hopped). Hops Brewing continues on the theme with their Hoptoberfest. Red Door brings back Prost Malone Oktoberfest this Saturday at all taprooms, Tropical Synonyms Hazy DIPA also returns to the Downtown and Clovis Taprooms. Resource Brewing releases their FOMO Hop sampler series, a Pale Ale brewed with Hallertau Blanc. Starr Brothers brings back Therewolf, their Oktoberfest. Steel Bender sends Lloyd on an adventure in Belgium with Lloyd’s in Bruges, a Belgian table beer brewed with the grist of a Kölsch and Belgian yeast, available this Thursday. Update: Marble has tapped Priddy Boy Pale Ale, available at all locations. Gravity Bound brings back City Meadows, a Gose with strawberries, lime, and basil, and taps Flat Spin, a session hazy with Citra, Vic Secret, Simcoe, Cascade, and Mandarina Bavaria. Toltec has tapped Tropical Storm Lager brewed with mango, pineapple, and lime. Rowley Farmhouse Ales will be releasing Monsters of the Week, a collaboration sour Tripel with Wrenhouse Brewing tomorrow (Saturday). Bow and Arrow releases Beer League #3 (small batch pilot system), an Italian Pilsner wet hopped with foraged wild Neomexicanus this Saturday.

New Cans: La Cumbre continues wet hopped beer season with Obscura, a Hazy IPA brewed with fresh Chinook hops, available this Friday. Red Door releases their Prost Malone Oktoberfest on Saturday, look for it throughout their distribution footprint. Update: Bow and Arrow gets things caffeinated with Coffee Club: The Catch Coffee Stout brewed with espresso from Cutbow Coffee (they have some really great coffee – Solo) releasing this Saturday. Bosque releases Spacelion IPA this Friday as a tribute to the life of James “Spacelion” Narvaez, with proceeds going to the Spacelion for Life Foundation to stop suicide. Update: Rowley Farmhouse Ales will be releasing Monsters of the Week, a collaboration sour Tripel with Wrenhouse Brewing tomorrow (Saturday).

Update: Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest returns this Saturday and Sunday at Expo NM (tickets from 2020 will be honored) with Boxing Bear, Palmer, Rio Bravo, and Tractor all set to attend alongside a plethora of other local businesses. Red Door Celebrates their 7th anniversary this Saturday from 2 p.m. at their Downtown Taproom with the release of Prost Malone Oktoberfest and live music from The Mango Cakes and The Vinyl Countdown from 8 p.m.

Second Street is having a party in celebration of their GABF Silver Medal winning Oktoberfest this Tuesday (9/28) night with cake and of course, pints of Oktoberfest on tap.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
