Well, first up, apologies for not posting a Day Nine preview on Friday. Between beer flights at Levante Brewing, and … well, that alone explains most of it. If you are ever in the suburbs of Philadelphia, make sure to hit up this place, or add it to your next beer shipment.
Anyway, the only event scheduled for Sunday is a continuation of ReSource’s event that starts today (Saturday), so for all intents and purposes, this is the final day of the 10th ABQ Beer Week. A big thanks to everyone involved, from organizer Marne Gaston and her team, to the volunteers, to the brewery staff members, and to everyone else out there who participated in one or more events. Let’s do this again next year, shall we?
Featured Event
Every day we will pick what we consider the biggest, most interesting, most unique event. This does not mean you should go to only this event and ignore the rest. All of them deserve your attention, but realistically, you can probably only attend a few. So we will make our daily pick, and you can either jump on it, or declare the Crew is foolish (we kinda are) and pick your own.
What: Beer Tour and Sensory Tasting. Where: ReSource Brewing. When: 12:30-6 p.m. Cost: $35.
Details: There will be six time slots available today, and again on Sunday. You get a tour of the brewing facility, followed by a “beer petting zoo,” a guided sensory tasting of four ReSource beers. You get to take a ReSource gift bag with you at the end. All sessions must have four attendees, or they will be canceled and you will be bumped to a different session. Search for ReSource Brewing at eventbrite.com to find the tickets.
Why you should go: Get yourself a unique beer education from brewer/co-owner Shawn Wright, one of the nicest and most knowledgeable guys in the industry.
All the other great events
What: Beer 101 Guided Tasting. Where: Marble Brewery. When: 2-3 p.m. Cost: $15 per person (20 tickets available at Hold My Ticket dot com). Details: Join head brewer Andrew Krosche and production manager John Heine for a little beer education. You get a sample tray and one pint. Why you should go: It never hurts to learn more about the beer, and two of the best will be your teachers for the day.
What: Beer & Jazz on the Hill. Where: Tractor Nob Hill. When: 5-10 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Join the Mumbojumbo Jazz Band, followed by Brasilaris Trio, for a night of smooth tunes and tasty brews, including a few special taps. Why you should go: This just looks to be downright soothing. We can all use soothing these days.
What: Beer Trivia. Where: Tractor Wells Park. When: 7-9 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Host Dan Pennington, who runs the weekly Tractor Trivia League, will be running the show with a trivia night dedicated entirely to beer. And yes, there will be prizes. Why you should go: Put all the knowledge you just gained at ReSource and/or Marble, or just over the years and years of drinking local craft beer, to the test.
