Over here at DSBC, we love collaborations. Not only between breweries, but also when breweries and local artists combine to create fun and unique beers that highlight the best of both worlds.
The newest beer/art collab is the second in the Artist Series from Boxing Bear Brewing. They have once again teamed up with Joshua Escobedo at Gallo Negro Tattoo to create Dr. Ink’s Prescribed Buzz, a double IPA with El Dorado, Sabro, Azacca, Strata, and Chinook hops.
We chatted with Escobedo to get the lowdown on this exciting collab, and learn more about the artist-centric event where the beer will premier this weekend.
This isn’t your first collab with Boxing Bear. What spurred you to team up again?
The last one went really well, but was kind of coming out of COVID, so the release party was smaller. We have been strengthening our relationship since the last one and look forward to doing more.
What inspired your design for the awesome label art?
I feel like I wanted it to match the last one, and also be a bit different. I do like the simpleness of black on white and white on black. And, since the last one was called ‘Dr.Ink Me, we decided to run with the whole doctor of ink, like in tattooing, if you get my drift. With the labels, I liked small designs that incorporated hops into everything.

Tell us about Ignite 2.0, the event where the beer is being premiered.
Ignite 2.0 is the next version of an event we have put on before, and is located at 2505 Quincy St. NE. We have a bunch of artists showcasing their craft — hair styling, food, tattoos, beer, etc., and we thought this would be a great time to release this new beer!
Be sure to check out the event Saturday at 2505 Craftwerks, or stop by any Boxing Bear location to pick up some ‘Prescribed Buzz’ to-go, with a label that will make you want to run out and get inked.
May the beer be with you … always.
