Get your lager-drinking shorts on, it’s that time of year again.
For the Love of Lagers returns to celebrate all the variants of the style at Canteen Brewhouse this Saturday. This has been one of our favorite laid-back festivals for a while now, summer heat be damned!
The setup is essentially the same as years past. Buy your tickets online and then head to Canteen at noon for VIP and 1 p.m. for general admission. There may be tickets at the door, but why risk it?
Once you’re past the entry station, head to the lager tents in the parking lot. Use your 16 sample tickets to see what all the participating breweries have brought to the table this year. You also get one free hot dog to keep yourself satiated beyond just the beer.
There will be shaded areas and water stations outside, but if you need to duck inside or you want to grab a seat on the patio, go right ahead. Just be warned, we expect there will be big water buckets filled with squirt guns and water balloons. Last year, some truly fun chaos broke out, because what doesn’t turn a bunch of adults back into kids like a proper water balloon/squirt gun battle?
Stranger Danger will provide live music on the patio from 1 to 4 p.m.

Now, as for those lagers, general manager Jamie Schwebach and head brewer Will Moorman were kind enough to send us the final list once they made sure everything was accurate. There’s one new lager with possibly the most unique beer name we’ve seen so far this year (see if you can spot it).
- Bow & Arrow: Denim Tux (Blue Corn Pilsner)
- Boxing Bear: Vienna Lager
- Canteen (3): Citranova, Steel and Crown (German Pilsner), Liberty Lager
- Ex Novo: Sumo Suit Yourself (Japanese Rice Lager with green tea)
- Flock of Moons: The Golden Wood (Rustic Pilsner)
- Gravity Bound: Maizey Train (Mexican Lager)
- La Cumbre: PLS German Pilsner
- Lasso: Helles
- Marble: Lager Du Blanc
- Nexus: Class “M” Marzen
- Quarter Celtic: Clean Pair O’ Schwarz
- Rio Bravo: Lemon Lionsmane Lager
- Santa Fe: Premium Pilsner
- Second Street: Scandinavian Pilsner
- Sidetrack: My God, It’s Full of Stars
- Steel Bender: Esmerelda (Italian Pilsner)
- Thirsty Eye: Shut the Front Dort
- Tractor: Otra Con Arroz Lager
The hardest part, as per usual, will be picking which lager gets the full pint at the end.
Grab some sunscreen, wear some light and comfy clothes (soccer jerseys are perfect), and we’ll see you all out there.
Keep supporting local!
