This is E-Rock. I’ve been threatening to write this column for the past month. I just finished everything I need for my master’s degree, and I am hoping to use my newly found free time to bring news from all of the Albuquerque breweries each week. I may even expand to cover the rest of New Mexico once I get a little better at this.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number (all are area code 505, for out-of-state readers) and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week. And for those breweries that play host to musicians, I made sure to list who’s on the week’s set list.
So here is all the news that is fit to blog for the week of May 7:
ABQ Brew Pub — 884-1116
(Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.–midnight, Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–2 a.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Scottish Ale. A new brew that none of the Crew have tried, so at least one of us (maybe the one who works across Louisiana at the Apple Store) will have to stop in to sample this style.
Music: Friday — Shane Wallen, Saturday — Raven Hills
Bad Ass Brewery — 918-2337
(Mon–Thurs 4 p.m.–10:30 p.m., Fri–Sat 3 p.m.–midnight, Sun noon–8 p.m.)
Beers: C-Squared (Kolsch), Heferojo (Red Wheat). A hybrid of a red and a wheat? We’re not even sure what that would taste like, so a trek to this nanobrewery at Eubank and Montgomery is in order.
Broken Bottle Brewery — 890-8777
(Mon–Fri 4 p.m.–midnight, Sat noon–midnight, Sun noon–10 p.m.)
No new listings this week. They’re just up and running, so we’ll give them plenty of time to perfect the eight styles currently on tap. Find BBB on Facebook to stay updated on the latest happenings. Foosball tournaments have been known to break out here.
Chama River Brewing Company — 342-1800
(Sun–Thurs 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Double Chama, 3 Dog Night, Crystal Pale, Chamarzen. Stoutmeister has tried two of these new styles, so here are his thoughts: “The Double Chama is an imperial amber, but don’t let that scare you. It checks in at just over 7-percent ABV, with more hops and less sweetness than the regular amber. This is a solid beer, but be careful, it could sneak up on you if you’re not indulging in some of Chama’s excellent food. As for the Chamarzen, this is one of the best examples of a German beer in the city. Get to Chama ASAP and enjoy it before they run out. I will have to head back over once I’m fully healthy to enjoy the 3 Dog Night, a Baltic porter that won a medal at the GABF in 2010.”
Il Vicino Brewing Canteen — 881-2737
(Sun–Thurs noon–10 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–midnight)
No new listings this week, but we’re pretty sure the mad scientists at the Canteen are creating something delicious that they will spring upon us in no time.
La Cumbre Brewing — 872-0225
(Open every day at noon)
Beers: Zythos Pale Ale. A delicious single-hop pale, I had the good fortune of trying this concoction on the day of its release. Drop by and enjoy a true, flavorful pale ale.
Music: Weds — Square One Quintet 7-10 p.m., Sat — The Surf Lords 7-10 p.m.
Marble Brewery — 243-2739
(Mon–Sat 1 p.m.–midnight, Sun 1 p.m.–10:30 p.m.)
Beers: India White Ale, Double White, Maibock, Oaked Double IPA, Abby Darkness, Red Ale. There are so many new styles, not to mention old favorites (I could drown happy in a vat of Double White if they’d let me), that it leaves our heads spinning. We shall be visiting Marble again very soon.
Music: Fri — Porter Draw 8-11 p.m., Sat — Lost Lingo 8-11 p.m.
Nexus Brewery — 242-4100
(Mon–Thurs 2 p.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sun 11 a.m.–midnight)
Beers: Zaragoza Pale Ale (light extra pale, 5-percent ABV)
News: Nexus’ Imperial Cream won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup in San Diego this past weekend!
Tractor Brewing Company — 433-5654 (Nob Hill Taproom)
(The Taproom opens most days around 3 p.m. and stays open as late as 2 a.m.; it opens earlier on weekends)
Beers: Pilsner, Maibock, Golden Belgian Ale, Apricot Wheat. We have sampled most of these quality seasonals, but the list of what’s to come soon has us even more excited — Belgian Wit, Double IPA, California Red, Summer IPA and the return of one of our favorites, the Black IPA!
Promotions: Trivial downtown in conjunction with Tricklock Theater Company. Check their Facebook page for more information.
Turtle Mountain Brewing Company — 994-9497
(Kitchen hours: Mon–Thurs 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m.)
Beers: Maximus Imperial IPA (100 BUs, 7.88% beast)
Promotions: Summer Fest Kick-Off for Brew Fest.

That should wrap up things for this week! If you have any questions or comments, leave them below or contact us on our Facebook page.
Until next week, I have a rehearsal to get to. I may be done with grad school, but a musician’s work is never really done. He just takes breaks to enjoy excellent beers!
Cheers!

Marble’s new beer is the Oaked DIPA, not Oakland. It’s fantastic!
Spell check can be an enemy as well as a friend. Sorry.
