ABQ Beer Week: It’s all about giving back on Day 4

If there is such a thing as a theme to a day of ABQ Beer Week, you know, besides beer, it falls upon this day, Sunday, to have a singular trend. That trend is a good one as today features numerous charity events where you can give back in different ways. Sometimes it is easy, like drinking beer with proceeds going to charity. Other events are more challenging.

Four days in and still going strong.

Four days in and still going strong.

The Crew will probably all take this day off to rest and recharge ourselves for the week ahead. Well, the others may be resting, I have to cover a baseball game, write a feature for a national website, and then write the giant Lobo football preview (yes, this early) for a major national magazine. When it’s all done I’ll probably need a beer. Or a nap. Or both.

Anyway, on with the events.

What: NM Brewers Guild Golf Tournament. Where: Desert Greens Golf Course. When: 11:30 a.m. Cost: $65 per person. Details: Four-man scrambles, with food and beer provided after your round. Reservations were required, so it’s probably too late to join in. Why you should go: If you love golf and beer, this is probably the event for you.

What: New Belgium Brunch. Where: Nob Hill Bar & Grill. When: Noon to 3 p.m. Cost: Unknown. Details: This event was added late, so we don’t have much info, but head over to NHBG and kick your hangover with some brunch food and lots of New Belgium beers. It will be a second opportunity to talk with brewer Lindsey G and try her S’mores Porter. Why you should go: Good food, good beer, expand your beer knowledge by talking to an actual brewer. It’s good way to start repenting.

What: Marble Bluegrass Extravaganza. Where: Marble downtown pub. When: Noon to 8 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: The Squash Blossom Boys and a slew of other bluegrass bands will be taking the stage all day and into the night at Marble. Why you should go: Well, if you like bluegrass, why wouldn’t you? Plus, there are lots of great beers on tap at Marble right now, including of course the 2013 edition of the 505 collaboration beer.

What: Pint for Pint. Where: Tractor Taproom in Nob Hill. When: Noon to 5:30 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: The annual blood drive benefiting United Blood Services returns to Tractor. Eligible donors will receive a commemorative pint glass and a $4 gift certificate for Tractor (valid 24 hours after you donate blood). Why you should go: If you can give blood, well darn it, you should, especially on behalf of those of us who cannot donate. Plus, while you’re donating, your friends can hang out at Tractor and kick back on a lazy Sunday.

What: Fun Run & Fundraiser. Where: Bosque Brewing on San Mateo, north of Alameda. When: 1 p.m. Cost: Unknown. Details: Head over to Bosque to join the Institute of Community Wellness for a fun run. After you’ve recovered, or while you wait for your friends/family who like to run, grab a pint and know that $1 for every pint sold will be donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Why you should go: It’s beer for a good cause. Remember, it’s Sunday, you gotta repent for the first three days of Beer Week. And then get a clean slate for the next six days.

What: Silly Saison Tapping. Where: Two Fools. When: 5 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: This special tapping was just changed from New Belgium to its current title. We have absolutely no idea what beers are being provided, so somebody head over this evening, find out, and let us know. Why you should go: To solve the mystery of this event! And because we’re betting whoever is providing the beers, they will be tasty.

The rest of the Crew will start hitting the town again Monday. Yours truly will be back at Isotopes Park for three nights before rejoining Beer Week for some awesome events Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Look for more details coming very soon!
