Tuesday should be a fun day as ABQ Beer Week kicks back into full gear. It features two major food-oriented events, plus some additional festivities. Plus, this here Stoutmeister returns from Chicago (albeit later at night).

Tuesday boasts more tastings, tappings, food pairings, a beer dinner, and a battle between New Mexico and California.

Featured event

What: NM vs. CA Rare Beer Night. Where: The Stumbling Steer. When: 4 p.m. to close. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Sierra Nevada has sent nine beers, including two on cask, to compete with the Steer’s house beers. Sample away and figure out who goes home with the crown. The SN beers are the Porter, Blindfold Black IPA, Southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop Ale, Hoptimum (DIPA), Dogtown Pale Ale, Kellerweis, Summerfest Lager, Sno Wit Whole Cone Imperial IPA (on cask), and Torpedo Extra IPA (on cask). The Steer will send out their newly named house beers, including the Bang up Blonde, Pig Sticker Pale Ale, Rawhide Red, Boneyard Brown, Iron Horse IPA, Hop Trough (DIPA), and Soiled Dove (imperial stout). There will also be some special randalls and a “surprise” beer. Why you should go: A vote for the Steer is a vote for New Mexico!

All the other great events

What: Tractor Brewing Sampling. Where: Jubilation. When: 4 to 7 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: All three of the Tractor beers now in cans — Almanac IPA, Farmer’s Tan Red, Milk Mustachio Stout — will be sampled. You can also meet can artist David Santiago. Why you should go: It’s double helping locals when you purchase Tractor cans at Jubilation.

What: Mad River Tasting. Where: Total Wine Cottonwood. When: 4 to 7 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Head over to the west side for a sampling of Mad River’s many excellent beers. Which ones? We don’t know, so call (505) 890-8467. And tell them to send the Crew some info while you’re at it. Why you should go: Your curiosity is killing you to find out what beers are being sampled, isn’t it? Go indulge.

What: Il Vicino Special Tapping. Where: Two Fools Tavern. When: 4 to 7 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Remember back a few months ago when Two Fools and Il Vicino got together and took some Dark & Lusty Stout and aged it in a Two Fools whisky barrel? It was hugely popular at Two Fools’ anniversary party. Well, they did it again, as Great Heart Whisky Stout is back for one night only. Get over there fast before the supply runs out. Why you should go: We have no idea if they will ever do this again, so it may be your last chance to try the Great Heart.

What: 5 Star 5. Where: 5 Star Burgers, Academy and Wyoming. When: 5 to 9 p.m. Cost: $20. Details: 5 Star is pairing up two appetizers and three sliders with five 5-ounce beers. Grab some fried pickles with La Cumbre’s Elevated IPA. Then onion rings should go great with Sierra Blanca Route 66 American Lager. A BBQ Pork Slider and Santa Fe Nut Brown should go well. Then there’s a Turkey Slider with La Cumbre’s South Peak Pilsner. And finish it off with a 5 Star Burger Slider with a Marble Red. Why you should go: I got really hungry and thirsty just typing this. And it’s 9:40 a.m. on a Monday in Chicago.

What: Odell and Goose Island Tasting. Where: O’Niell’s Nob Hill. When: 5 to 7 p.m. Cost: No cover charge. Details: Three beers apiece from the popular breweries will be available for sampling. Odell is bringing 90 Shilling, St. Lupulin and Lugene Milk Chocolate Stout on nitro. Goose Island features The Ogden Belgian Tripel, Sofie, and Honker’s Ale. Why you should go: Lugene on Nitro?! Damn my flight for not landing till 8:30.

What: Marble Beer Dinner. Where: Farm & Table, 8917 4th Street NW. When: 7 to 9 p.m. Cost: $65. Details: The folks at Farm & Table have created a special four-course meal that will be paired up with Marble’s best beers. We don’t know what they’re going to have, but we bet it will be good. Why you should go: Food, beer, happy belly, happy you.
