The Week Ahead in Beer: Marble steps up for volunteer first responders once again

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

The annual Mountain Rescue Brew Fest returns to Marble Brewery downtown this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. This 10th annual fundraiser helps the Albuquerque Mountain Rescue Council, an all-volunteer organization that helps lost and injured people in the Sandia Mountains and other nearby wilderness areas, purchase the equipment that they need to do just that. There are three rounds of silent auctions, a huge raffle with multiple prizes (you do not need to be present to win), and special commemorative shirts and glasses for sale. Street Food Sensations and Elevated Food NM will provide the grub, while live music will come courtesy of six bands — Stray Dawgs (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.), The Real Matt Jones (1-2:30 p.m.), Chris and Company (3:15-4:30 p.m.), Dirty Brown Jug Band (5-6:30 p.m.), Eileen and the In-Betweens (7:15-8:30 p.m.), The Memphis P-Tails (9:30-11 p.m.).

There are three other notable events this Saturday in different cities. Over at Thirsty Eye Brewing, they are finally throwing a grand opening party from noon to 10 p.m. There will be live music, artists, fun activities, and plenty of coffee and beer. Families are welcome until 8 p.m. Down south in Las Cruces, Little Toad Creek is hosting Oktoaderfest on the plaza. There will be live music from 3 to 9 p.m., plenty of beer, and all sorts of games, including stein races and keg tossing. Finally, up at Beer Creek Brewing on Highway 14, south of Santa Fe, Hoptoberfest will go down, with nine local breweries offering up beers made with hops grown on local farms. We will have a lot more about this new event in a separate story this week.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Black Snout gets in the Halloween spirit early with Green Goblin, a green apple ale. Bombs Away moves on to Version 8 of Hazy Chain DIPA. Bosque gets fresh with Dry Acequia IPA. Brew Lab 101 conjures up Pecos River Cider, made with all-local apples. Cantero brings back fan favorite Brew-Ha-Ristra, a red chile stout. Ex Novo revs up Abobo’s Revenge Imperial IPA. La Cumbre collaborated with Cigar City to create Sea to Summit IPA, which debuts in cans and on tap this Friday. Marble and Quarter Celtic have tapped their hazy DIPA collaboration, The Angry Hopsman, at all of their locations. Nexus dusts off some Archaic Mosaic IPA. Toltec puts on its vest and boots and releases Basic Gourd.

Up in Santa Fe, Second Street gets a little funky in the darkness with Belgian Stout. Further north, Red River unleashes Contagion Raspberry Sour.
