Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.
There are multiple new can releases this week, as there have been most weeks of late, but a couple of them caught our eye for reasons besides simply what liquid is inside. Canteen has held to a core trio of canned beers for a while now with Exodus IPA, Dougie Style Amber, and Laid Back Lager. This Friday, however, they are putting another of their longtime staples in cans with High Plains Pilsner. A past medal winner at the World Beer Cup, this has long been one of our favorite lagers on draft in town, and we are quite excited to see it make its package debut. Actually, we are fairly certain head brewer Zach Guilmette is even more excited than we are, because that beer is his baby. Hey, brewers are allowed to have favorites in their own lineups, right? Meanwhile, a brewery down south has jumped into the canning game for the first time, which is great to see in this day and age. Little Toad Creek in Silver City has Lucky Toad Lager in its first run of 12-ounce, six-pack cans. Coming soon are Hop-A-Long Pale Ale and Grumpy Old Troll IPA. Now if they put the Pendejo Porter in cans, we may need someone to mule some up to ABQ for us (and yes, we realize they may have to change the name to get TTB approval for that one).
On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out. Bow & Arrow also has a new can release with Scenic West Hazy IPA debuting Saturday, plus it will be on tap if you would rather enjoy a pint on the expanded patio, but if you want to head over Friday you can enjoy Britannica British Brett Pale Ale (say that three times fast) on tap, a new collaboration with Sidetrack. Canteen is also releasing Citranova and a new Social Capital kettle sour with pomegranate and cardamom on draft, plus Sun Stoked IPL arrives on tap this Friday. Ex Novo added cans of Lords of Hoptown DIPA on Tuesday, and will soon be shipping those out to Whole Foods locations in ABQ and Santa Fe. Ex Novo also tapped Motueka Pale Ale and Arnold Schwarzenlager. High and Dry has more of its red ale, Constable Reggie, and also added Not Down (Brown Ale). La Cumbre rolls out another hazy DIPA can on Friday with Super Neat, plus Mango Mosaic Hazy IPA is on draft now. Nexus will wake you up with Coffee & Cream Golden Stout on draft. (UPDATE) Sidetrack also has the Britannica on tap, of course, plus they added Hopulence Hazy IPA. Steel Bender gets clever with Dr. Rudi’s 100% Natural Good Time IPL Solution on draft this Thursday.
Up in Santa Fe, things are quiet this week. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row has more Rendija Red and Doppelbock on draft. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing tapped Pineapple Splash.
Also, we have added the new B2B Garden Brewery to our listings below. Look for a full story later this week.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
