The Week Ahead in Beer: Big releases do not stop just because it is all takeout only again

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

The breweries have gone back to having takeout only (check all the new days and hours of operation with each capsule below), but that does not mean this is the end of some cool new beers and returning favorites in cans and bottles. Things already kicked off back on Monday when Red Door dug through the archives and found some bottles of 2019 and 2020 Mail Order Russian Imperial Stout. Today (Wednesday) will feature the return of cans of an annual favorite, Reserve Ale, at all three Marble locations. Steel Bender will have bottles of CE-2 Cider Expedition ready for Thursday. Friday will feature multiple can releases, with Bow & Arrow unveiling Sunbloom American Saison, made with prickly pear and juniper berries, and a new hazy IPA called Standin’ on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona. Ex Novo is releasing Like a Miracle Triple IPA and a new version of Bedrock Push Pop with pineapple, lactose, and vanilla could be available Friday or Saturday, but it could also be held back for a while. La Cumbre will continue its series of hazy DIPAs that same day with Telepathic Turkeys. Finally, Bow & Arrow will also release Chocolate Para Mesa Imperial Stout, made with cacao nibs, ancho chiles, cloves, and Ceylon cinnamon, on Monday. As for the Santa Fe breweries, Second Street put its Great American Beer Festival gold-medal winner, Brown Ale, in cans, and those should be available at Albuquerque retailers by the end of the week. Rowley Farmhouse Ales has fresh cans of Agent Scully IPA and The Other One Hazy IPA available today. Tumbleroot has a whole new lineup of to-go cans and bottles, so take a gander at the capsule below.

Many of the breweries are taking orders in advance over the phone or through their websites. Contact your favorites to see what is the best way to get your beer and/or food to go. We do know the following breweries/taprooms are temporarily closing until the lockdown is lifted — Bosque Las Cruces Public House, Kaktus Brewing, Second Street Original, Starr Brothers Brewing.

On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out for crowler/growler fills. Bombs Away sounds the alarm with Danger Dort. Bosque takes a bite out of your palate with a new hazy DIPA called Alligator. Brew Lab 101 is rocking out with Beyond the Pale Ale. Casa Vieja is feeling festive with its Spruce Tip Ale. Marble tapped the Hatch green chile-infused Autumn Roast Lager at all taprooms, while a new Belgian-inspired strong ale made in collaboration with Cabin Boys Brewery in Oklahoma, called Sooners or Laters, is now available at the Westside Taproom. Palmer keeps things light with a new Mexican lager, Ala Grr. ReSource has its first small-batch beer available, Thanksgiving Leftovers, a pale ale with hints of orange and cranberry. Thirsty Eye has brought back a fan favorite, Biscochito Liquido, for the holiday season. Turtle Mountain recently added several new brews with Gender Fluid Juicy IPA, Little Boot Session IPA, Robust Arsenal Porter, and Get Bock Inside.

Up in Santa Fe, Second Street goes big with its award-winning Trebuchet Imperial IPA. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row keeps things smooth with more Cali Common, plus Holiday Bock bottles are in stock. Further north, Red River Brewing flips the fruit with Boysenberry Fruity Sour Ale now available.

(WEEKEND UPDATES) It’s not just about some additional new beers. Casa Vieja has decided to close until at least December 1. Sobremesa is temporarily after an employee tested positive. Steel Bender is only doing beer and cider to-go after a member of its kitchen staff had a close contact test positive. Differential has set its hours and days of operation as Monday through Saturday from 5 to 6 p.m. for growler fills only. On the additional beer front, Ex Novo will have the new version of Bedrock Push Pop in cans this Monday. Marble tapped Oceanfront Property IPA at all three locations. Sidetrack added a new stout called In the Thick of It for crowler/growler fills. Thirsty Eye also tapped Hazy Shade of Winter Pale Ale for crowler/growler fills. Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales has released two new bottles called Reverie De Peche and [Woman Singing Aria in Latin], a collaboration with OHSO Brewery of Arizona. Second Street has Gose Town available for crowler/growler fills.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.
