Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

It’s the dead of winter, even though it doesn’t really feel like it out there. Oh, it’s chilly, but there’s no snow, and we’ve got articles popping up telling us how the current drought may lead to the Dust Bowl 2.0, which is just another case of bad history repeating itself. Anyway, here we are in winter, in the midst of stout season, and there’s a slew of hop-forward beer cans rolling off the line for this week. Because, of course, this is New Mexico, and the hopheads must be satiated, come (no) rain or shine. Bow & Arrow will get an old song stuck in your head when you snag four-packs of Through the Desert on a Horse with No Name Hazy IPA on Friday. Boxing Bear follows that on Saturday with another run of Super Cereal Hazy DIPA. Canteen says why wait for the cans, come get a crowler (or a pint) of Hop Baller IPA. Ex Novo already released its own new hazy DIPA, Punk Rawk Show, in four-packs and (UPDATE) now just released Verbose Verbiage IPA in cans again. La Cumbre takes off on Friday with Hoplaunch IPA in four-packs. Oh, and if you do need some cans that are more malt-forward, lighten up with the return of Boxing Bear’s Body Czech Pilsner and the arrival of Ex Novo’s She Sells Seashelles, the latter of which is already available.
On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out on draft. Canteen recently brought back Vamos Jugo and Irish Red. Casa Vieja has a new dry Irish stout called O’Brien Stout. (UPDATE) Gravity Bound keeps the hazy DIPA train going with Fractal Sequence, while Good for Fodder is a new Czech dark lager. High and Dry added a lager, Abacus Finch, while also bringing back Rye Orbison, this time with pistachio nuts added. (UPDATE) La Reforma goes big with La Verdad DIPA on draft. (UPDATE) Marble gets spicy with its new chipotle-pepper-infused rauchbier, Fuego. Red Door has a limited supply of Mic Czech Pilsner on tap at the brewery only. (UPDATE) Rio Bravo has more cans of its pale ale, Quarantine King. (UPDATE) Sidetrack drops two new lagers, Intergalactic IPL and El Camino (Vienna) Lager. Starr Brothers brings back its biscochito stout, Zombies in the Manger.
Up in Santa Fe, Rowley Farmhouse Ales rolled out cans of Germophile – Cherry/Vanilla. Second Street tapped more of its popular St. George IPA.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of January 4.
To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Draft/Crowler/Growler Fills” for beers poured from the taps, and “Cans/Bottles” for pre-packaged beers. All beers listed are subject to change.

Sad to see in the Week Ahead in Beer that the cold spell has not yet killed off the Haze Craze and we still don’t have Stouts and Porters for the season 😦
Fun fact! I’m pretty sure I spotted a Little Toad Creek shirt on the Frog Jumping Episode of “We Are the Champions” (Netflix).
