The Week Ahead in Beer: Canteen doubles down on the good deeds

Stoutmeister will have you covered for all things new in beer and brewery events every week.

Canteen Brewhouse loves to keep people moving, with all sorts of fun runs and walks, bike rides, and more that start and end at the main brewery. Many of these events also have a charity tie-in, and this week Canteen has two such events. Friday night will feature Hops & Healthcare, a 5K run/walk that kicks off with registration at 6 p.m. and the run at 7 p.m. There is a suggested $20 donation that will go to Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless. You also get a pint of your choice at the end. Also starting Friday will be another run of Beers for Bikes, which will run through Sunday. Bring in any spare bicycle parts, or even an entire bicycle you’re no longer riding, and get discounts on beers or the brewery will buy you a beer for the full donation. All of it goes to the Esperanza Community Bike Shop, in partnership with Albuquerque Parks and Recreation. Drop by for a beer at Canteen this weekend and do some good for others in the community!

New Draft:

Canteen tapped Cabana Negra Mexican Amber Lager. Marble added Pilsner Italiano. Tractor will tap Last Light Blonde Ale on Friday. Turtle Mountain added Oh Mai!, a maibock if you could not guess (and you totally heard the name in George Takei’s voice).

Up in Santa Fe, Beer Creek tapped their first New England-style hazy IPA, The Pit Boss. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row turned over most of their taps, adding Baltic Porter, Red Hammer DIPA, Mild & Lazy, Baird’s Maris Otter SMaSH, and Jemez Hazy IPA. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing will release True Moon, a wheat ale flavored with orange peel, this Thursday. Open Space Brewing in Santa Clara has tapped Faywood Mirage, a pilsner, and Southwest Breakfast, a flavor-packed porter.

New Package:

Bow & Arrow managed to sneak in a variant of their Dusty Hefeweizen, made with strawberries, in cans and on draft late last week. Ex Novo will bring back Sumo Suit Yourself, a Japanese-style rice lager, in cans and on draft this week. Steel Bender will bring back Cherry Dynamite in cans and on draft this Friday.
