The North American Brewers Association held their annual competition last week and a pair of New Mexico breweries picked up medals.
Boxing Bear earned a bronze in the Helles Lager category for their Golden Gloves Premium Lager.
Canteen also snagged a bronze, in the India Pale Lager or Cold IPA category, for their High Voltage IPA.
Both beers are currently on tap, and Golden Gloves is also available in cans.
Congrats to both breweries, and thanks to Canteen head brewer Will Moorman for the reminder about the NABA awards.
Elsewhere around the local beer scene:
- The Bow & Arrow staff are headed to Chicago for the presentation of the James Beard Awards on June 15. The brewery is one of five final candidates to be named best bar in the country. Good luck, team!
- Speaking of Bow & Arrow, we finally learned the identity of their new head brewer, and it’s a familiar face. Andrew Krosche, who has brewed at Marble (twice), Ponderosa, and Chama River/Kellys, has taken the reins. With luck, maybe we’ll get to interview him about the move.
- Rumor Brewing has begun construction on that playground for kids that they teased a couple years ago.
- Kaktus Brewing added an indoor farm (think giant green shipping container) to continue their push to becoming a true farm-to-table eatery to go with their great beers.
- FMV Brewing finally has both a Facebook page and an official website. The latter still shows just guest taps. Fear not, we will stop by soon and see what is the ETA on house beers.
That’s all we have for today, but if anyone hears of some good beer news out there, DM us the info on social media.
Keep supporting local!
