Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Socorro, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.
The average high in Albuquerque this time of year should be about 58 degrees, but the projected highs for the next week range from 68 to 75. That makes it a perfect time for Santa Fe Brewing to bring back its best warm-weather seasonal, Freestyle Pilsner. The release party is set for the taproom at Green Jeans Farmery this Saturday. It all kicks off at 2 p.m. and runs until 7. There will be happy hour prices all day, $1 off growler fills, and special raffles all day long. Seth Hoffman will provide some live music from 5 to 7 p.m. Of course, if it is still too soon for you to indulge in a pilsner and let go of the dark beers, La Cumbre is releasing Gracias Por Fumar on tap and in bombers this Friday. The smoked porter was aged in brandy barrels this year, and the noon tapping will come in advance of the bottles being sent out to stores for sale. Or, if you want something a little more pucker worthy, Tractor is releasing their Flanders Red Ale in bombers and on tap this Thursday. It is their first barrel-aged sour, and if you buy it on tap it can come with a special glass from artist Travis Bruce Black you can purchase. That all starts at 7 p.m., with the band Still Closed For Repairs going on at 8 p.m. To sum it up, special beer releases of three wildly different styles on three consecutive days. Enjoy!
On the new beer front this week, there are a few additional options to check out. Boxing Bear should have New Mexikolsch back on tap later this week. Exodus IPA returns to taps at Canteen. Steel Maverick, the Belgian-style red ale collaboration between Steel Bender and Marble, is now on tap at the latter. Marble also has India Wheat Ale available. Nexus has a Strong Ale and Milk Stout available. MacLomas (Dry) Stout is back at Quarter Celtic in advance of St. Patrick’s Day. Starr Brothers is feeling spooky with Phantom Limb Black Rye IPA. Tractor will also have Barnstorm Ale back on tap Friday. Turtle Mountain has a Marzen for March on tap now.
Up in Santa Fe, Duel brings back Manikin and Monomyth, while adding Pulp Fiction and Cezanne Verite. Rowley Farmhouse Ales is feeling hoppy again with Colonel Citra, plus Stout-ish is back.
Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of March 6.
