The Week Ahead in Beer: More canned brews, more art, more metal

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

It’s one of those weeks where a lot of good things are demanding our attention, so here we go. Kick things off today (Wednesday) by grabbing some six-packs of White Out at any Marble location. Hey, if the pollen levels are surging, spring is here, and this is the beer for spring. You have two other canned options due out this Friday. La Cumbre is putting a limited amount of its annual, and popular, seasonal Cafe Con Leche in cans. You can also trek out to Ex Novo in Corrales for Krispy’s Kolsch, another proper spring beer. Once your beer fridge is full, head down for the monthly First Friday Artwalk. Both Boese Brothers and Sidetrack will be hosting art shows, some support some local artists and enjoy a pint or two. Finally, because it’s us, we have our eyes on the metal show going down Tuesday night at Tumbleroot in Santa Fe. Touring bands Vale of Pnath and Wolf King team up with locals Marrow Monger to crush some skulls. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. It all kicks off at 8 p.m.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bow & Arrow introduces a new Mexican-style dark lager, Mesas y Cervezas. Canteen unveils a new Hoppy Wit. Cantero gets chill with Glacier SMASH. Ex Novo also tapped fresh batches of Eliot IPA and Where the Mild Things Are, plus the new Fruits and Cats and Fruits and Cats and Fruits and Cats, a West Coast IPA with tangerine, grapefruit, and pomegranate added in fermentation. Kaktus has some fresh Puddle Stomper IPA and Amber Ale, along with the new Left Coast Red. Marble also tapped Samba Fog, a new hazy IPA. Quarter Celtic recently added Pedro Especial and Fighting Monk Belgian IPA. Red Door has brewed up another batch of the charity brew Resilience Pale Ale, this time with funds going to help the Australia bushfire victims. Sidetrack tunes up with A Tribe Called Kolsch. Toltec went ahead and put its award-winning Shaman Stout on nitro.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn goes imperial with B-Side Dub Stout. Second Street has a new batch of Sloppy Sloth Hazy IPA on tap and in cans, plus Black Shadow Porter has arrived. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row tapped another batch of Stouty McStoutface. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing resurrects Hourglass Red, a tasty imperial.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of March 2.
