Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

We wrote earlier this week on how Marble Brewery has adapted to the current state of affairs when it comes to still helping out charities and other worthwhile nonprofits. Yet, as anyone who follows our local beer scene already knows, Marble is just one of many breweries that give back to the community. Others are stepping up this week, each in their own way. Things kick off today (Wednesday) as Tractor Wells Park hosts Not All Heroes Wear Capes, which honors workers in the healthcare industry and first responders by taking 50 percent off their checks for all beer, cider, cocktails, and food. Greengos will be parked outside to offer up additional culinary options. Just bring your work ID and show it to your server/beertender. This will be a weekly offering. Then on Thursday, Nexus will become the latest brewery to offer up their take on the Black is Beautiful imperial stout on draft, with proceeds going to local charities. Thursday will also mark the release of the One for 5 IPA, a collaboration from Steel Bender, Sierra Blanca, and Second Street in partnership with Albertsons Market to benefit The Storehouse. The beer will be available at the participating breweries on draft and in six-packs (save for the original Second Street, which will only have six-packs for sale), and Albertsons will also carry six-packs for sale starting Friday.
BIG FAT NEWS UPDATE: Per a story on KOB, the next amended public health order will include breweries and restaurants being allowed to reopen for indoor dining. It will only be 25-percent occupancy to start, but hey, it is a start. As Red River owner Michael Calhoun told us, the temperatures are starting to drop at night up north, so patio-only seating will not work for too much longer at those breweries at high elevation. Being able to allow customers back inside is a must, even if down here at a mere 5,000 feet, it still feels like the surface of the sun some days. Anyway, this is a good first step, but please, please, keep wearing your masks. If we keep the number of positive cases trending downward, by mid-September the breweries might be allowed to bump it up to 50 percent, and eventually, even higher than that. It is up to all of us help out our favorite breweries by being responsible and safe!
(Gets off soapbox, returns to regular part of this feature.)
On the new beer front this week, there some other fresh options to check out. Ale Republic brings back the popular Bug Juice on draft. Bow & Arrow brewed up a new dessert beer with Oh Peachy! Peach Cobbler Pasty Sour, which debuts on draft this Friday. Canteen has a new version of Social Capital kettle sour with plum and vanilla on draft, plus Flashback IPA will arrive in cans for the first time this Friday. Ex Novo brings back two favorites on draft with Costume Party Hazy IPA and Sons of Scotland. Gravity Bound recently tapped Green Scale, a new hazy IPA. High and Dry brings back The Dorado, a New England-style IPA, and also added No Stoubt, a brown ale, and Cats From Japan, a pale ale. La Cumbre drops a double can release on Friday with the annual favorite, Oktoberfest, joined by the limited release of Lizard Wizard, a new hazy DIPA. La Reforma switched up their IPA again with West Coast, Carnal! now on draft. Marble stops for some Red Light Lager. Red Door is ready at last to roll out cans of Tropical Synonyms, a triple-dry-hopped hazy DIPA. Rio Bravo blows up with Sandia Guerra, a watermelon blonde ale, on draft. Sidetrack puts everyone under Hopnosis, a wet-hop IPA due out on tap at the end of the week. Steel Bender also has its Unfiltered Cider back in cans. Toltec tapped a new Double IPA. (UPDATED) We just got two big updates from Turquoise Trail and Turtle Mountain. The former added Coal Town Stout and Turn Me Loose Amber, while the latter is slowly rebuilding its lineup after a glycol issue, with Sturm Lager (Helles Bock), Ornate Turtle (West Coast IPA), and Preamble Pils joining Metal Snake Dry Irish Stout (on nitro).
Up in Santa Fe, Beer Creek added Pecos Brown to its draft list. Chili Line rolls out a Smoked Marzen and Tepache Sour with pineapple and apricots.
(UPDATE) Also, take note that we have added Harmon Lane Brewing, the in-house brewery at Southwest Grape and Grain, to our listings!
(WEEKEND UPDATE) Gosh, we are just chock full of updates this week, aren’t we? Anyway, three more beers of note have popped up. Boxing Bear has four-pack cans of New Mexi-kolsch back in stock. Marble gets a jump on autumn with Pumpkin Ale on draft at all three taprooms. Quarter Celtic does likewise with Vienna Fest Bier now on tap at the main brewpub.
