Events Roundup: Entire weekend packed to the brim with brewery shindigs

For the second week in a row, we decided that the sheer number of events going on required a full breakout from just the simple listings in The Week Ahead in Beer. Let us dive in, shall we?

Friday: Getting a bit goth-y

Just a couple of cool events to highlight for tonight. First up, the very unique musical style of Betty Benedeadly returns to High and Dry from 6 to 8 p.m. We will let the brewery handle the description of what you’re in for, but trust us, this is a most excellent musical experience.

“The desert roaming psych-folk guitarist Betty Benedeadly returns to High and Dry Brewing. Betty and her musical partner, Braden Guess plays twang-edelic, foot-stomping ritualistic rhythms and guitar-driven motifs that draw from Ennio Morricone’s spaghetti westerns, surf, and roots rock.”

Benedeadly has released two EPs and a full album through Albuquerque’s own Desert Records.

After that show wraps up, head on down to Tractor Wells Park for the monthly Goth Night and Dark Market at 8 p.m. This is the Blood Red Edition, so you know which color to decorate your wardrobe. Spectral Youth and multiple vendors will be on hand, there will be music from DJs Riff Rat and Moonside, plus Pepe El Monstrito.

Saturday: Five fun options

Let us chart out your possible day, but if you attempt to do all five events, please utilize a designated driver or Lyft/Uber.

Kick things off as early as 11 a.m. with Thirst for the Outdoors at Canteen. It’s described as an outdoor adventure fair. Basically there will be pop-up booths all around the patio with different groups who specialize in outdoor activities. You can meet with them to learn all that they have to offer in terms of getting outside and enjoying all the natural beauty of New Mexico.

Here is the full list of which groups will be there: ABQ Girls Who Walk, Albuquerque Road Runners, BFit505/Burque CrossFit, Esperanza CABQ, Friends of the Valle de Oro, Latino Outdoors, MST Adventures, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, New Mexico Tourism Department/New Mexico True, New Mexico Wild, Petroglyph National Monument/National Park Service, Public Lands Interpretive Association, REI, State of New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division, and Women Who Explore.

As that wraps up at 3 p.m., head downtown to Marble for the annual Love Beer, Hate Cancer. This is a big annual fundraiser for Camp Enchantment, which helps children who have cancer or who have recovered from cancer enjoy life.

The all-local music lineup will take the stage from 3 to 10 p.m.

  • Danny Cravens 3-4 p.m.
  • ‘Merican Slang 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Alex Maryol Band 6-7 p.m.
  • Trinity Soul 7:30-8:30 p.m.
  • The Ear Ringers 9-10 p.m.

At 6 p.m., you can take your pick of two events. Just down the street from Marble, Gravity Bound will host the Summer Party, where a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Downtown Growers’ Market. Cavitas Green Taco Machine will provide the food, DJ Flo Fader will be spinning, there will be a special beer release, and there will be some patio games at this family-friendly event.

Your other option is to head to Gallo Negro Tattoo at 2505 Quincy St NE for Boxing Bear’s Ignite Party 3.0. This third annual collaborative celebration will feature Dr. Ink Me 3: Claw vs. Paw, a hazy IPA, plus local artists, food vendors, flash tattoos, craft hair from Lavish Hair Lounge, and a dunk tank. Maybe Justin Hamilton will hop in there and you can get revenge for all the times purchasing his beers have wiped out your bank account.

To close the evening, we always recommend hitting up Tractor Wells Park for the monthly show by the Desert Darlings. Hops & Dreams: Freak Show Edition will be a freaky good time starting at 8 p.m., as these amazingly talented theatrical belly dancers shimmy around the brewery taproom.

(UPDATE) How does one more sound? Lizard Tail Heights will be celebrating its ninth anniversary from noon to close. DJ Jake and DJ Emily will spin from noon to 5, followed by Cynical Bird from 7 to 10. There will also be local vendors and food specials.

Sunday: Winding down

Get some exercise and bike on down to Rio Bravo for Beer Bikes and Brunch. UNM Recreational Services will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will be offering free diagnostics, simple adjustments and chain cleaning for any bicycle brought down to the brewery. Plus, grab some delicious brunch and a pint.

Differential will then close out the weekend with another Night Market from 6 to 10 p.m. A dozen local vendors and makers will be on hand on the back patio, plus there will be two food trucks. It’s a nice, chill way to support local one last time before the work week begins.

Wherever you go this weekend, have fun and stay safe.

Keep supporting local!
