Local breweries pay tribute to veterans

Nexus is offering up their most famous dish free to veterans with military ID today.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns fell silent and all was quiet on the Western Front. The end of World War I in 1918 marked what would eventually become Veterans Day in the United States, honoring all those who served in the military.

From brewery owners at Bombs Away and Starr Brothers (and possibly other places) to many brewery staff members, there are veterans throughout the industry in New Mexico. We raise a pint to all of them, and to all the veterans we know in our personal lives. My father was a 20-year Army veteran, and I was actually born at Fort Carson in Colorado, spending my first eight years as a military brat with my first six birthdays in five different cities and three different countries.

As with so many other holidays, numerous businesses step up to honor those being honored, and a few of our breweries have joined in today (Tuesday). If there are any breweries we missed that see this, please send us your information and we will update this story throughout the day.

For all of these offers, please bring your military ID.

  • Brekki Brekki is offering up a free dish of your choice and a cup of coffee.
  • Calavida Cantina will pour $3 pints for veterans and activity-duty military.
  • Nexus is offering a free two-piece chicken and waffles or enchilada plate at the original location off the I-25 frontage road.
  • Santa Fe Brewing, at all locations including Green Jeans and Tin Can Alley, will give 20 percent off on all pints, packaged beers/ciders, and merchandise.
  • Starr Brothers tapped the new Lieutenant Lager, with a $1 from every pint sold going to help veterans in need.
  • Steel Bender is offering 10 percent off food (which they actually do all the time for anyone with a military ID), plus $1 off pints and packaged beer.
  • Truth or Consequences Brewing is buying veterans their first beer and giving them a $20 gift card at the original location and the Las Cruces taproom.

There are also numerous restaurants and other local businesses throughout Albuquerque and the rest of New Mexico offering up special deals today. Just check the social media pages for your favorite spot(s) and see what they have to offer.

With gratitude to all who served.
