Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s six breweries, one in Los Alamos, and one in Moriarty also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, so naturally everyone is throwing parties the prior weekend, which just happens to be this weekend. Since it is a holiday that’s as much for grown-ups as children, our breweries are jumping into the fun. It all kicks off Friday at 8 p.m. with GOTHtoberfest at Bow & Arrow. Put on your best all-black outfit or costume, enjoy some dark beers and spooky music, and get your weekend started off with lots of quotes from South Park. Saturday will feature a pair of nighttime events at Duel ABQ and Tractor Wells Park. The first is the latest edition of Enchanted PopUp, Strangers with Candy, a themed event with live music, vendors, art, and more. It kicks off at 7 p.m. and runs until close. Tractor, in the meantime, will host the Stranger Things Arcade Carnival and Reptilian Lounge with Tricklock Theater Company and Yelp. There will be strange and spooky food items, vendors, games, drink specials, DJ Flo Fader, arcade and pinball games, and finally a special edition of the Reptilian Lounge out in the parking lot. It all costs $14.77 and tickets can be purchased in advance. Finally, Marble will cap the weekend with events at two of its taprooms Sunday afternoon. There will be a pumpkin carving contest at the Heights taproom from 2 to 5 p.m. Prior to that Downtown, your furry friends can get in on the fun with Mutt Masquerade: A K9 Costume Contest from noon to 3 p.m.

Check out our separate preview on the Beer Premiere, which takes place Saturday at Bow & Arrow from 1 to 4 p.m.

There are also two anniversary events this week. Marble Westside celebrates its fifth tonight (Wednesday) with live music, food offerings, and a new beer release, Rouge Maverique. Then on Saturday, The 377 celebrates its first anniversary with an all-day/all-night party.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bombs Away drops two more releases with Actuator IPA and Primer Pub Ale. Bosque has a special barrel-aged beer debuting for the anniversary on Thursday, but no, they have not told us what’s in those barrels. Bow & Arrow released Sweetfetti Weizenbock late last week. Boxing Bear has Chocolate Milk Stout on nitro for a limited time. Broken Trail had a small batch of Prickly Pear Gose for the opening of its new taproom, but it’s nearly out. Fear not as Dogtoberfest returns Saturday. Canteen has a fresh batch of Falconer’s Arm Pale Ale. Dialogue resurrects Biere de Mars and Amber Ale. La Cumbre is feeling rather proper with The Madding Crowd Special Bitter. Marble has fresh batches of Cherry Brune and Dark Strong. Ponderosa goes big with Imperial Red, due to replace Ecliptic Wet Hop Ale this weekend. Quarter Celtic also goes big with Imperial Clark, a beastly version of the hazy IPA. Starr Brothers embraces the season with Jack Tooth Grin, plus gets a little hoppy with Citra Grin (Pale Ale).

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn has its Oktoberfest on tap at last. Duel has a fresh batch of Fiction IPA and, after the Beer Premiere, look for Lourd of Funk, a sour cask-aged Wee Heavy.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of October 23.
