Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s seven breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Sure, Halloween is not until next Thursday, but plenty of breweries are channeling the spirit of the holiday with special events this weekend. Boxing Bear kicks it off with a pumpkin carving contest Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by Howl-Oween on Friday. This event runs all day, with food trucks and special vendors, plus the doggos from Watermelon Mountain Ranch will be on the patio from 3 to 6 ($1 from each beer sold during this time goes to them), and finally the Desert Darlings perform their Halloween Spectacular at 6 p.m. Bow & Arrow has a case of Halloween Fever, and the only prescription is dark disco beats by DJ Garronteed, elixirs by Spellbound Syrups, and a costume contest on Friday at 8 p.m. Up in Santa Fe at the same time, Tumbleroot is hosting the Season of the Witch Burlesque Bash. Saturday features three big events, and we already covered the Stranger Things Arcade Carnival at Tractor Wells Park. Also on deck that night are a Halloween costume contest and party at Brew Lab 101, starting at 8, and the Halloween Fiesta at Dialogue at the same time. Gotta cover all parts of town, right? Then there are two special events at Casa Vieja on Sunday and Tuesday. The first is the Ghost Books reception and book signing from 4 to 7 with author Hank Estrada for a $20 entry fee. Then on Tuesday from 6:30 to 9, there will be a Paranormal Investigation of Casa Vieja itself (also $20). Spots are limited at both events, so call ahead (see the number below).

The big non-Halloween-themed events this weekend include the Los Ranchos Cider party at Steel Bender on Thursday (more to come on this one), the Oktoberfest party at Boese Brothers on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., Marble’s Hops and Harvest Festival on Saturday from 2 to 8, and The 377 Brewery’s third anniversary party that starts at 7. Good luck figuring out where to go and what to do. Have fun out there, but be safe.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few options to check out. Bombs Away drops some Blast Seat Wheat and Autumn Saison. Boxing Bear puts one of its classics, Ambear, in 16-ounce four-packs on Saturday. Canteen will tap its Beer Premier offering, Hustle & Glow Hazy DIPA, on Sunday. Cantero found some Local Lizard Red Ale and Extra Special Pumpkins. Lava Rock is feeling All Pumpkin Like. Marble added Winter Storm Warning for last weekend’s Mountain Rescue Brew Fest, plus Silver Coin Cerveza and 1111 Rouge are on tap at the Heights location only (for now). Quarter Celtic is climbing up to Mile Rye IPA. Steel Bender brings back Manana Hazy IPA on tap and in cans today (Wednesday), with a fresh batch of Los Ranchos Cider arriving Thursday. Tractor will have cans of Turkey Drool this Friday. Turtle Mountain added three new beers with some quality names in Rainbow in the Dunkel, Transitional Madness IPA, and Nothing Really Batters Pancake Stout.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn has a new Hazy Pale Ale debuting with its Autumn Beer Dinner on Thursday. Rowley Farmhouse Ales goes big with Grandissant – Black Raspberry. Second Street summons the Black Shadow Porter, Brown Ale, and Westmalle Bitter.

OK, fine, Pepe the Mule counts as a beer, even though it is basically a Moscow Mule, but it was made with beer. Double Black is now on tap at all times, and that is a good thing. Make sure to check out the B.S.B. (Burque Special Bitter), the first beer from new head brewer David Rosebeary.

The Candy is Dandy is a peanut butter cup porter, which we’re sure many of you need in your lives. Nebulas is a hazy IPA. Marvelous is a tasty oatmeal stout. The most recent additions are the H-E-Dubbel, James Blond, and Trans American, a collaboration with Steel Bender.

Beers: Special Shapes (IPA), Ghost of a Moon (Pale Ale), other taps rotate frequently. The most recent additions are constantly shifting. That’s what happens with a 1-barrel brewhouse, the turnover is pretty constant, but it also means the beer is always fresh! Special Shapes and Ghost of a Moon are on tap at almost all times. For October, La Avispa Gose, a collaboration with Marble, should be on tap at all times, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Pink Warrior House in the fight against breast cancer.
